By organizing notes, setting priorities and scheduling your day, it helps to reduce stress and anxiety. Evernote also offers an element of satisfaction from task completion, boosting mood and self-confidence. Thus, Evernote is not only a productivity tool, but also a means to promote mental wellbeing and a balanced, stress-free lifestyle.\n## Summary ##\nEvernote is a comprehensive tool with features that cater to individuals and businesses alike. Its tiered pricing structure broadens its reach, ensuring users can access necessary features within their budget. Evernote is an essential tool in managing both professional and personal tasks efficiently, enhancing productivity and mental wellbeing.\n\n::authorNote{author-slug=hugo title=\"My Return to Evernote\" author-text=\"Finding My Digital Sanctuary Again by\"}\n::\n\nThere’s a certain comfort in coming home, isn't there? For the past two years, I’ve been a digital nomad, wandering through a landscape of countless note-taking apps. I’ve tried the minimalist ones, the complex database-driven ones, the shiny new ones with all the bells and whistles. Each had its merits, but none ever truly felt like home. My journey started, like many others, with a departure from Evernote. The infamous \"price-gate\" and a feeling that the app had lost its way sent me packing. But recently, I decided to peek back in, and what I found surprised me. I’m back, and I can honestly say, I’m happier than ever.\n\nEvernote has been on a journey of its own. After being acquired by the Milan-based app developer Bending Spoons, the app has undergone a renaissance. The sluggish performance and clunky interface that drove many of us away have been replaced by a faster, cleaner, and more reliable experience. It feels like the Evernote we once loved, but rebuilt from the ground up for the modern age. This review is my story of rediscovery—a look at how this old favourite has reclaimed its place as the cornerstone of my digital life and, more importantly, my mental well-being.\n\n## The Core Experience: More Than Just Notes\nAt its heart, Evernote’s organisational structure is straightforward: you create Notes, which you can fill with text, images, audio, and all sorts of attachments. These notes live inside Notebooks, which you can then group into Stacks. Think of it like a digital filing cabinet—Stacks are the drawers, Notebooks are the hanging folders, and Notes are the individual documents inside.\n\nFor someone who craves structure, this system is a dream. I have a Stack for ‘Personal’, a Stack for ‘Work’, and a Stack for ‘Creative Projects’. Within my ‘Personal’ stack, I have Notebooks for ‘Journaling’, ‘Recipes’, ‘Therapy Notes’, and ‘Home Admin’. It’s a clean, hierarchical system that makes it easy to know exactly where everything belongs.\n\nHowever, this is also where one of my main critiques lies. The system is inherently rigid. A note can only live in one notebook at a time. This is where I find myself missing the flexibility of apps like Bear, which are built around a tag-first system. With tags, a single note about a \"mindful cooking recipe\" could exist simultaneously under the tags #recipes, #mindfulness, and #mealprep. In Evernote, I have to choose one primary home for it. While Evernote has a robust tagging system, it feels secondary to the Notebook structure. I wish they would lean into a more fluid, tag-based organisation, allowing notes to exist in multiple contexts without duplication. It’s a small gripe, but for those of us who think in webs rather than straight lines, it’s a noticeable limitation.\n\n## The Web Clipper: Still the Undisputed Champion\nLet me be unequivocal: the Evernote Web Clipper is, without a shadow of a doubt, the single best reason to use Evernote. It is second to none. For two years, I searched for a replacement, and nothing (absolutely nothing) comes close to its power and elegance.\n\nThis browser extension is my digital butterfly net. When I find an article I want to read later, a recipe I want to try, or a piece of research for a project, I don't just save a bookmark that might later become a dead link. I click the little elephant icon, and the clipper gives me options. I can save the full article, a simplified ad-free version, a specific selection of text, or just the bookmark. I can choose which notebook to save it to, add tags, and even write a quick note about why I saved it, all without leaving the page.\n\nFor my mental health, this tool is a game-changer. It’s my primary weapon against information overload and the anxiety of a browser with 50 open tabs. It allows me to capture inspiration when it strikes and trust that it’s been saved to my \"second brain\" for later. I clip articles on managing anxiety, guided meditation scripts, and beautiful travel destinations that I can revisit when I need a mental escape. It turns the chaotic, endless scroll of the internet into a curated, personal library of knowledge and inspiration.\n\n## Your Everything Drawer: Beyond Plain Text\nEvernote isn't just for typed notes. It’s a multimedia hub, a digital catch-all for every piece of information in your life. I scan important documents with my phone's camera directly into the app, and they become fully searchable PDFs. I take photos of whiteboards after a brainstorming session. I save audio notes to myself when I have a fleeting thought and can't type.\n\nThe search functionality is where this truly shines. Evernote’s search doesn’t just look at the text you’ve typed; it has powerful Optical Character Recognition (OCR). This means it can find text inside images, scanned PDFs, and even handwritten notes (if your handwriting is legible enough!). I once spent ten minutes frantically searching for my car's insurance details, only to remember I had scanned the policy document into Evernote months ago. A quick search for the insurer's name brought it up instantly, saving me a mountain of stress. This ability to find a needle in a digital haystack is incredibly reassuring.\n\nThe app also has a fantastic task management system built right in. You can create to-do lists within your notes, assign due dates, and set reminders. This is perfect for keeping your tasks and the context behind them in the same place. For example, my note for a work project will contain all the research, meeting minutes, and drafts, with a checklist of action items right at the top. It stops the frantic switching between a notes app and a separate to-do list manager, creating a more streamlined and less overwhelming workflow.\n\n## The New AI Assistant: A Glimpse into the Future\nOne of the most significant recent additions, and a clear sign of the Bending Spoons era, is the integration of AI features. While some apps have gone overboard, Evernote’s implementation feels thoughtful and genuinely useful, particularly the new AI Search.\n\nInstead of having to remember the exact keywords or title of a note, I can now ask Evernote questions in natural language. For instance, I can type, \"What were those ideas I had about starting a podcast last year?\" and AI Search will intelligently scan my entire library—notes, PDFs, images and all—to find the relevant information. It understands context and intent, not just keywords. This has been a revelation for unearthing old ideas and connecting disparate thoughts I had forgotten about.\n\nThere are other AI tools, like \"AI Cleanup,\" which can automatically format messy, pasted text into clean bullet points or summaries, and AI-powered note generation to help you get started with a draft. It’s still early days for these features, but they represent a promising direction. For me, AI Search is the standout, transforming the app from a simple storage container into an intelligent partner that helps me find and make sense of my own thoughts.\n\n## How I Use Evernote for My Mental Well-being\nWhile Evernote is a productivity powerhouse, its greatest value to me is as a tool for mental clarity. It’s the quiet, organised space where I can untangle the chaos in my head. I switch between using [Notion](https://mindwobble.com/software/notion) and Evernote for these tasks, but more recently I have found myself using Evernote more frequently.\n\n* **My Daily Brain Dump:** The first thing I do each morning is open a new note in my ‘Journaling’ notebook and write. I don’t filter it. I just pour out any anxieties, worries, frustrations, or excitements that are swirling around. Getting it out of my head and onto the page provides an immediate sense of relief and perspective.\n* **The \"Good Things\" Jar:** I have a dedicated notebook called ‘Wins & Gratitude’. Whenever something good happens, no matter how small—a compliment from a colleague, a beautiful sunset, a delicious meal—I clip a photo or write a few sentences about it. On difficult days, scrolling through this notebook is a powerful reminder that life is full of good moments.\n* **Taming Anxious Loops:** When I find my mind stuck in an anxious loop about a specific problem, I create a note for it. I write down the worst-case scenario, the best-case scenario, and the most likely scenario. Then I list small, actionable steps I can take to address it. This process externalises the fear and turns a formless anxiety into a manageable project.\n* **A Curated Sanctuary:** Using the Web Clipper, I’ve built a library of resources that support my mental health. I have notebooks filled with guided meditations, articles on cognitive-behavioural therapy techniques, inspiring quotes, and links to calming music. When I feel overwhelmed, I know I have a safe, curated space to retreat to.\n* **My Filing Cabinet:** I use my phone to scan all bills, taxes, documents, receipts and save them into their relevant notebooks in Evernote. How does this help my mental health? It helps because I don't have to focus any brainpower on these topics, and I have access to all of them wherever I am. A true second brain.\n\nBy offloading all of this—my tasks, my memories, my worries, my inspirations and my documents; into a trusted system, I free up so much mental bandwidth. I’m less anxious about forgetting things and more present in my daily life. Evernote has truly become my second brain, and my first brain is much calmer for it.\n\n## Conclusion: Will I Be Staying Home This Time?\nMy two-year journey through the world of note-taking apps was educational. I learned a lot about what I value in a digital tool. But ultimately, it led me right back to where I started. The new Evernote, revitalised under Bending Spoons, is a powerful, stable, and deeply functional application that has addressed almost all the issues that once drove me away.\n\nIs it perfect? No. I still dream of a more flexible, tag-based organisational system. And there's no denying that it's a premium tool with a price tag to match, which will remain a significant consideration for many.\n\nBut the sheer power of the Web Clipper, the peace of mind that comes from its universal search, and the thoughtful integration of new AI features make it an unparalleled tool for capturing, organising, and rediscovering your life's information. For me, the value it provides in reducing anxiety, clearing my mind, and creating a digital sanctuary is immeasurable.\n\nSo, yes. I’m staying home this time. I’ve unpacked my digital bags, and I’m settling in for the long haul. My journey started, like many others, with a departure from Evernote. The infamous \"price-gate\" and a feeling that the app had lost its way sent me packing. Juggling the hats of husband, dad, and devoted cat owner, Hugo is on a quest to better understand his own brain while offering a hand to anyone else who might be feeling a little wobbly.\n\n## Why I built Mind Wobble\n\nMy mental health journey started at 15. Poor sleep, self-confidence potholes, and occasional bouts of depression became regular companions. For years I tried to push through without really understanding what was happening, something a lot of people can relate to.\n\nWhat changed things was getting curious instead of just frustrated. I started treating my own wellbeing like a series of experiments: trying different approaches to sleep, journaling, exercise, and nutrition, then paying close attention to what actually helped. Some strategies were wildly successful. Others were quickly retired. But each one taught me something about how my brain works.\n\nI built Mind Wobble because I wanted a place where that kind of honest, practical exploration could live. Not clinical advice pretending to have all the answers, but real experiences backed by genuine research — the kind of resource I wished existed when I was 15 and had no idea why I felt the way I did.\n\n## Background and credentials\n\nMy formal background is in personal training and sports therapy. That training gave me a grounding in exercise science, anatomy, and the relationship between physical activity and mental wellbeing; something I draw on heavily when writing about exercise and recovery for Mind Wobble.\n\nBeyond formal qualifications, I have spent over a decade researching and personally experimenting with mental health strategies. That includes hundreds of hours reading published research on sleep hygiene, cognitive behavioural approaches to anxiety, the gut-brain connection, and how regular movement affects mood regulation. I write from a combination of that research and my own lived experience with anxiety, low mood, poor sleep, and confidence challenges.\n\nI am not a therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist, and Mind Wobble content is never a substitute for professional help. What I bring is practical, experience-led guidance for people who want to understand themselves better, grounded in real research and tested through years of personal application.\n\n## How I approach research\n\nEvery article on Mind Wobble is research-led. I draw from peer-reviewed journals, clinical guidelines, and established mental health organisations to make sure the information is accurate and up to date. Sources I regularly reference include:\n\n- **PubMed and published research papers** — particularly studies on sleep, exercise, nutrition, and their effects on anxiety and mood\n- **NHS and NICE guidelines** — for evidence-based approaches to common mental health challenges\n- **The Sleep Foundation and Matthew Walker’s research** — for sleep science and practical sleep hygiene strategies\n- **Journals including *Sleep*, *The Lancet Psychiatry*, and *Frontiers in Psychology*** — for peer-reviewed findings on the topics I cover\n\nI aim to present research honestly: sharing what the evidence supports, acknowledging where it is limited, and being clear about what comes from personal experience rather than clinical study.\n\n## My interest in AI journaling\n\nOne area I find genuinely exciting is the intersection of AI and mental health journaling. Traditional journaling has strong evidence behind it; expressive writing has been linked to reduced anxiety, improved mood, and better emotional processing in multiple studies. But many people struggle with the blank page.\n\nThat is where AI-assisted journaling comes in. I have been exploring how thoughtful AI prompts and guided reflection can help people who find freeform journaling difficult; lowering the barrier to entry while keeping the therapeutic benefits. Mind Wobble’s approach to AI coaching is built on this belief: that technology should support self-understanding, not replace professional care.\n\nI am particularly interested in how AI can help people recognise patterns in their thinking and mood over time — the kind of slow, cumulative insight that traditional journaling offers but that many people never stick with long enough to experience.\n\n## Books and resources that have shaped my thinking\n\nSeveral books have significantly influenced how I think about mental health and how I write for Mind Wobble:\n\n- **\"Why We Sleep\" by Matthew Walker** — fundamentally changed how I understand and prioritise sleep, and directly shaped Mind Wobble’s sleep content\n- **\"Lost Connections\" by Johann Hari** — a thoughtful exploration of the social and environmental factors behind depression and anxiety that goes beyond the chemical imbalance narrative\n- **\"The Body Keeps the Score\" by Bessel van der Kolk** — essential reading on how trauma and stress manifest physically, reinforcing the connection between body and mind that my sports therapy background already pointed to\n- **\"Atomic Habits\" by James Clear** — practical and evidence-based, this book informs how I write about building sustainable mental health routines\n- **\"Feeling Good\" by David D. Burns** — one of the foundational cognitive behavioural therapy books that helped me understand my own thought patterns around anxiety and low mood\n\nThese are not just books I have read; they are resources that actively inform the guidance and perspective I bring to Mind Wobble articles.\n\n## What drives Mind Wobble today\n\nMind Wobble exists because I believe understanding your own mind should not require a psychology degree or an expensive therapist. While professional support is essential for many people (and I will always encourage it), there is a huge gap for practical, research-informed self-understanding — the kind of knowledge that helps you sleep better, manage anxious thoughts, build confidence, and take care of your mental health day to day.\n\nAs a husband, dad, and devoted cat owner, I write from the messy reality of trying to maintain good mental health while juggling everything life throws at you. That honesty is deliberate. Mental health is not a problem to be solved once — it is an ongoing practice, and I think the most useful writing comes from people who are still in the middle of it.\n\nWhether you are looking for a new perspective, a practical tip to try, or just a reminder that you are not alone in feeling wobbly, Mind Wobble is here for you.",[],"2024-10-24T13:31:05.444Z","2025-09-27T16:16:19.413Z",1780930568596]
